Betty Sue (Thornton) Harwell

Betty Sue (Thornton) Harwell, 83, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Oakdale Care Center.

Betty was born on February 06, 1941, to Willard Thornton and Irene Butler (Thornton) Thrift, in McCrory, Arkansas. She married J.C. Harwell on July 26, 1958, in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Betty was a member of Fellowship Southern Baptist Church in Harviell, MO. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty worked on the farm, raised countless animals, grew gardens, canned, cooked, and brought her family to church; while doing all of these things, she still prioritized loving and nurturing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with others that came into her life.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, one son, four brothers, and one sister.

Betty is survived by two sons, Jeff (Marlo) Harwell of Fairdealing, MO, and Justin (Betsy) Harwell of Poplar Bluff, MO; six grandchildren, Corey (Chayanne) Buffinton, Brittney Marie Harwell-Digges, Michael Harwell, Mitchel Harwell, Hunter Harwell, and Matthew Harwell; five great-grandchildren, Montana Buffington, James Buffington, Kaylee Digges, Jayden Digges, and Haylee Digges; one great-great-grandchild, Maylon Donovan; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Graveside service to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
