Alonzo Kit Skaggs

Alonzo Kit Skaggs, 79, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri formerly of Grandin, Missouri passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at his home.

Kit was born July 9, 1943, in Ripley County, Missouri to Hume and Edith Skaggs.

Previously of Grandin, Missouri, Kit was a 32-degree Mason in the Grandin Masonic Lodge 579.  He was also a Member of the Grandin Scottish Rites, and Shriner's Club of Grandin.  He retired after 19 years of service with the Poplar Bluff Police Department.

Kit enjoyed working in his shop, going to auctions, and shooting pool with his friends and acquaintances.  The times he treasured most were being with his family, especially his grandchildren and dogs.

On Feb. 17, 1990, he married Cathy J. Caudle in Fairdealing.  She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter Kitrina (Jeremy ‘Joey’) Prino of Jackson, three daughters from a previous marriage, Kim (Steve) Cannon of Doniphan, Karla (Roy) Hale of Springfield and Pam (Dan) Koehler also of Doniphan; three boys he helped raise, Chuck (Danielle) Spradling of Poplar Bluff, Eric (Andrea) Spradling of Imboden, Arkansas and Blake Stroder of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren, Jaxson Prino, Travis (Cassie) Cannon, Kelsey Koehler and Madlyn Koehler; two great-grandchildren, Weston Cannon and Barrett Cannon; and two sisters, Ruby Hatfield and Sue Turner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bob Skaggs, Oran Skaggs, and Tom Skaggs and five sisters, Lois Smith, Glenna Woodring, Anna Roark, Pauline Steele, and Ruth Lour.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 5 pm Tuesday at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with a Celebration following at 6 pm. Mr. Randy Whiteside will officiate.

The family would also like to thank the doctor, staff and nurses of Crown Hospice for the professional and compassionate care given to Kit and the family. It will always be remembered.
