Aileen J. Garrison

Aileen Josephine Garrison, 94, of Houston, Tex., formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Silverado Senior Living Center, in Houston.

Mrs. Garrison, daughter of the late Franklin Joshua and Anna (Kurtz) Pigg, was born Nov. 15, 1912, in Chaonia, Mo. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Arkansas State University, at Jonesboro. Having a keen devotion to education, she began her teaching career in a one room school house. Later after teaching at Eugene Field School, in Poplar Bluff, Mrs. Garrison became the first Elementary Counselor in the Poplar Bluff R-1 School District. She ended her career teaching remedial reading and math at Sacred Heart Catholic School, in Poplar Bluff. As a long time member of the First Christian Church, Mrs. Garrison served in a number of capacities - Sunday school teacher, member of women's groups in the church and supporter of church projects and activities. She was also a 75 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Greenville Chapter. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed the fellowship of her many church friends.

On June 23, 1934, she married Willard Archie Garrison. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1995.

A daughter, Joann Weber Featherston, of Houston, Texas survives.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Walter Simpson officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff.
