Addie "Vernice" (Gowin) Seratt

Addie Vernice (Gowin) Seratt, 95, of Poplar Bluff, MO passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022.

Vernice was born on February 12, 1927, to Bert and Stella (Bowers) Elder in Wayne County, Missouri. She married Carl A. Gowin on December 19, 1943, Poplar Bluff.

Vernice was a member of First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff. She enjoyed canning food, working her garden and flowers, fishing, and cooking for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Vernice is survived by one daughter Karen Gowin Shepard; one sister, Veda Wilson; nine grandchildren, Karen Lynn, Sheila, Larry, Michael, Jimmy, Jason, Timothy, Crystal, and Shawn "Bear"; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous other extended family members.

Vernice was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Carl Gowin; two children, Carl Gowin and Carolyn Sue Hunter; second husband, Calvin Seratt; three brothers, Loyd, Clyde, and Lavern Elder; two sisters, Velma Chapman and Violet Bennett; two grandchildren, Renee Lynn Gowin and David Gowin.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, October 31, 2022, from 1:30-2:00pm at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Memorial service will follow beginning at 2:00pm. Inurnment will take place at Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
